Basilica di San Francesco

The burial place of St. Francis. It was begun in 1228, two years after his death. Over the next century its upper and lower church was decorated by many artist, foremost of which was Giotto, whos frescoes on the "life of St. Frances" are some of the most renowned in Italy and needless to say, stunningly beautiful.
