Panorama view of the Piazza del Campo

My favorite (along with Sante Croce in Florence) "town square". It occupies the site of the old Roman forum which might account for its fan shape and its downward sloping toward the town hall. There is a lovely fountain (to the left in the picture) with reliefs depicting the virtues, Adam and Eve, and the Madonna and Child. the fountain's water is still supplied bya 500-year-old aqueduct.
